Summertime
A Poem
by Alisha Paige
Sitting on a sparkling beach with you;
Sublime.
Listening to the waves roar, swoosh and spill onto our tanned toes;
And then out to sea again, leaving lacy mermaid prints of summers past.
When you loved me in the sand.
Our bodies glistening with coconut oil, squinting into the sunlight,
Reaching for one another's lips, swollen and sticky from too much sun and wine.
Oh to have one more sunny day on that wind swept cove with my lover.
To watch his long, brown hair streaked with golden sunlight dancing behind him,
Loving the wind, grasping for one more glint of warmth, one more touch.
Skin on skin, sand falling away from our arms, our shoulders, your chest;
Smiling down at me, chocolate eyes dipped in warm honey, tinged with magical amethyst.
Stealing my breath, my soul, unlocking me all.
For one more day with you;
Summertime.
You.
Me.
Our love.
So Young.
So Pure.
All those summers ago.
